Carnival Approaches
They call this a ‘Bloco’ and they are practicing for Carnival which this year starts on Friday March 1st and goes on until Ash Wednesday on March 6th.
My wife and I were out enjoying the morning sunshine and taking some exercise when we came across this happy bunch of people practicing their music and songs in typical Brazilian fashion. The beat of the Samba on the drums is unmistakable.
Everyone knows about the world-famous carnival in Rio, where I live just cannot compare to that, (can anything) but we all have a good time, probably due to the amount of alcohol drunk along the way!
Well the excuse is that there are 40 days of lent after carnival until Easter but I have yet to see much abstinence!

The life of a travelling man does not always run smooth........
When sitting in a hotel waiting to fly you just never know what you are in for as is so easily illustrated by the email I received at 10pm on a nice Saturday evening while waiting to fly from London’s Heathrow airport (yes London does have nice weather sometimes)
