Toledo

Posted on in Blog
I recently spent some time site seeing in the town of Toledo in

Castile-La Mancha, Spain. Situated to the south of Madrid, the

walled city is set on a hill above a river, which gives spectacular views

over the surrounding countryside.

Toledo is a Unesco world heritage site because of its many

monuments and its cultural history. There are many incredible

examples of buildings that have survived from medieval times.

It has what is believed to be one of Spain’s finest Gothic

Cathedral. The internal and exterior carving by the monumental

masons is spectacular and intricate.

We stayed in a small hotel just inside the town. Its hillside site

proved to be hard on the legs, but well worth the walk to the top to

appreciate the views. It is a very busy tourist attraction but I would

recommend it as an interesting place to visit.

The town draws a lot on the character of Don Quixote  from the 1605

novel by Miguel de Cervantes, with statues and artwork depicting

him placed at various points around the town.
